VID: You'll Be Back (Sherlock/Moriarty, PG-13)

Title: You'll Be Back (from Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda, sung by Jonathan Groff)
By: daasgrrl
Length: 3:18
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Characters and/or pairings: Sherlock/Moriarty
Warnings, kinks & contents: Slash, canonical violence
Notes: I blame shadowfireflame, who first said "hey, have you heard about Hamilton"? and clevermanka, who followed up with, "I love this song, check it out". After two listens I thought: a) "this song is awesome" and b) "this is totally a Sheriarty vid, isn't it?". And so it came to pass :)
Summary: The madness of King Jim.

2014 fannish roundup

Only managed nine fannish works this year, not all of them even Sherlock-related. In chronological order:

1. Sherlock: Special Wedding Edition (vid, Sherlock/John)

Easily the most "popular" thing I did this year, with 55K+ hits, which is nice, although probably a lot of people on Youtube were looking for Sherlock's *actual* wedding speech and were horribly disappointed *g*.  Relatively easy to put together, since I swear the episode was basically shot to enable such a vid - it wasn't even a dare so much as an engraved invitation. Appeared to mostly make people happy, but attracted a few scornful anti-shipping comments as well, which is unsurprising.

I'm offline again tomorrow, so Happy New Year! May 2015 bring you much joy, fannish and otherwise.

VID: Sherlock - Special Wedding Edition (Sherlock/John, G)

You know, I swear this was originally going to be maybe an eight-panel gifset, and then I just got... carried away...

Title: Sherlock - Special Wedding Edition (Sherlock/John, G)
Length: 3:32
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Characters and/or pairings: Sherlock/John
Thanks to: evila_elf for unstinting support and previewing, a grateful nod to arianedevere for her hilarious and helpful transcripts, and pennswoods for sparking the initial insanity. I rest my case *g*
Notes: AU version of The Sign of Three, in which Sherlock finally marries John. I have nothing against Mary (especially where it involves poly *two thumbs up*), but this one's for the Johnlock shippers. I'm more of a Holmescest girl at heart, but it had to be done.

VID: Sherlock Holmes - Pirate Captain

One last burst of crazy before I get back to reality. Pirates! is brilliant, by the way (and I'm not a fan of pirate movies in general). I only saw it on DVD, but nevertheless enjoyed it more than Monsters University and far, far more than Despicable Me 2, which I could have walked out in the middle of and not felt bad about it at all. Even if you have zero interest in the vid, I'd love to hear what you thought about MU/DM2 :)

Title: Sherlock Holmes - Pirate Captain
Length: 1.12
Fandom: BBC Sherlock/The Pirates! Band of Misfits
Characters and/or pairings: Sherlock + John = The Pirate Captain + The Pirate With A Scarf
Notes: I recently watched Pirates! Band of Misfits, which features Martin Freeman voicing the long-suffering sidekick of an eccentric pirate captain. Somehow it all felt strangely familiar. For shadowfireflame, who demanded to know where the crossovers were.

VID: Roses of Picardy (War Horse, Jamie/Jim)

Quick rec for something you might not have read but should: The Private Life of Anderson by persiflager. It doesn't really matter if you like Anderson or hate him, it's mostly about Sherlock anyway. And hilarious with it. I've also started bookmarking fics I've particularly enjoyed, which essentially count as recs if you share my specific and particular tastes.

Since the timing seems appropriate, a very happy birthday to splix, with bonus vid.

Song/Artist: Roses of Picardy (John McCormack)
Length: 1.56
Fandom: War Horse
Characters and/or pairings: Jamie/Jim
Thanks: to evila_elf for previewing
Notes: For splix, whose original vid of this song using stills made me want to try it with footage (which she generously encouraged). In hindsight, there wasn't a whole lot I could do with it, but they were pretty to play with anyway. The rest of you can kindly just look over there for a minute *g*

VID: Tainted Love (BBC Sherlock, Mycroft/Sherlock)

Still a little dubious about this one, but I started it almost a year ago, so this is more a 'get out of my head' kind of thing :)

Title: Tainted Love
By: daasgrrl
Song/Artist: Tainted Love (Soft Cell 2XS Remix)
Length: 1.48
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Characters and/or pairings: Mycroft/Sherlock
Warnings/kinks/contents: dysfunctional relationships, Holmescestian undertones, implied major character death
Thanks: to evila_elf for beta
Notes: An overvidded song, but I had to do it anyway. Remix = the original on speed.
Summary: Mycroft/Sherlock angst with an AU chaser. Nasty, brutish, and short.

VID: Caveat Lecter (BBC Sherlock, SerialKiller!Sherlock AU, Sherlock/John)

When previewing this vid on Christmas Eve, evila_elf asked if the title credits were intended to be Christmassy, what with the stocking and red writing and all. Um, no, just wildly inappropriate timing...

Title: Caveat Lecter (SerialKiller!Sherlock AU)
By: daasgrrl
Song/Artist: 3 a.m. (Eminem)
Length: 2.22
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Characters and/or pairings: Sherlock/John friendship
Warnings/kinks/contents: violence (canon), dead bodies (canon), minor character death (implied)
Thanks: to evila_elf for previewing.
Notes: After a week of struggling to write some nice, fluffy Johnlock, this just... happened. I think it was my brain rebelling, although if it's any consolation it's still vaguely shippy. The song has been heavily butchered edited/rearranged, so don't expect the radio version.

Summary: Sherlock is a serial killer; John learns to cope.

It's 3 a.m. in the morning/put my key in the door and/ bodies laying all over the floor and/ I don't remember how they got there/ but I guess I must have killed them - killed them.

(Non-)Vid: Cabin Pressure - Xanadu (Martin/Douglas)

Not long after I became a fan, I swore that one day I would vid Cabin Pressure. Yes, I know. Challenging. But rationality has never stopped me before!

So, accordingly - have a Cabin Pressure vid. Without the moving pictures. Or anything in the way of lyrics. Or indeed, music. Actually, it's more of a badly mutilated sound file paired with a static image so that YouTube will accept the upload. Cup.

Title: Cabin Pressure 3.i - Xanadu (A Travesty)
Pairing: Martin/Douglas (...ish)
Length: 3:53
Notes: Thanks to evila_elf for beta/repeated previewing and to all those who contributed to the Cabin Pressure transcripts, which were heavily utilised. This is very silly, but I hope you get a smile out of it. It's not technically ideal, but it's as smooth as I could get it - trying to work around the varying microphone positions, background noise levels, overlapping dialogue and audience laughter proved to be... not as easy as it sounds *g*

Vid: Last Day of Your Life (Third Star, Miles/James)

Yes, I saw this bloody movie months ago now, but it refused to go away unless I vidded it. However, it took forever to find something that worked for me - I still have slight reservations about the song, but on the whole I'm pleased with it. And at least I think I can finally move on *g*

Title: Last Day of Your Life (Third Star, Miles/James)
Artist: Glass Pear
Movie summary: A group of friends take their terminally ill mate on a last-hurrah road trip to his favourite place in the world: Barafundle Bay, Wales.
Notes: Third Star fanvid focusing on the relationship between Miles (JJ Feild) and James (Benedict Cumberbatch). Possibly more friendship than slash, but open to interpretation. If you wanted the actual slash, that would be here.
Thanks: to evila_elf for repeated previewing and link checking.
Technical notes: This is the first time I've ever ripped from source, and I loved the clarity of the results. Even if it all ended up compressed anyway. I also tried out a few effects for the first time, but none of them are particularly noticeable. With the flashier ones I tried I just ended up putting them in and then taking them straight back out again. It just doesn't seem to be the way I vid, although one day I do want to attempt one of those dramatically effect-laden things just to see if it's possible. Also, I discovered belatedly that Glass Pear are in fact Welsh, which pleases me (unreasonably) no end.
